Season 11 of NBC’s “The Voice” is in full swing, and Tennessee man Dan Shaffer has already made an impact in the first round, blind auditions.

At fifty seven, Shaffer is the oldest person competing on the show this season. Coach Blake Shelton was the only judge to turn around. He and his family have been defying odds ever since his oldest son was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when they moved to Nashville.

Now, his son’s disease is in remission and his family says “he’s had to take care of us for so long and this is quite an opportunity for him.” Shaffer went on the show to provide and support his family using his talents, abilities, and gifts.

He told interviewers that it was his “faith and family, not fame, that make him who he is.”
